Pishu is a Zanskar valley village with 30 houses and 60 acres of farmland. For the residents of Pishu village, a spring water source near the Zanskar river is a year-round source of water. The village fields and the village are above the water source. Because there is no pumping mechanism, the water from the spring rushes into the Zanskar river and cannot be utilised by the people. Previously, they employed mules and automobiles to transport water to their homes, this is a highly cumbersome process and used to take most of their day time. Total number of beneficiaries is approximately 250.
At Pishu water spring’s intake reservoir, we installed a 5 HP solar-powered SP 9-6 Grundfos submersible pump. Water was delivered to the village’s traditional reservoir via a 1.1 kilometres pipeline with a total head of 60 metres. The pump produces 1.2 lakh litres of water every day. Hill Rooftop OPC Pvt Ltd was in charge of the pump installation. Each community contributed one member to the solar array structure and pipe laying from the inlet reservoir to the storage reservoir. During the day, the pump is powered by a 5 kW solar PV array made up of 15 335-watt Polycrystalline Solar panels.
The pump controller uses a Fuji Electronics variable frequency drive, and the pump begins automatically as soon as sunlight hits the solar panels. Two village residents have been tasked with performing routine maintenance of the pumping system, which involves cleaning the solar panels and inspecting the pipeline and pump at regular intervals. On June 15 2021, the pump was turned on.
